Oną Manhean TMA ‘1’ Junior High School was established in 1960 as a gateway to higher education and rewarding careers not only for Ghana but the whole world at large. It is the premier and the largest public elementary school in the community. It is located in Tema New-Town a suburb of Tema of the Greater Accra Region (the capital region of Ghana). In addition, Tema New -Town where the school is situated is predominantly a fishing community.

The school can boost of computer laboratory and library provided by British Council and Korea Embassy respectively. The building itself was formerly a workshop block used for Pre-Technical and Pre-Vocational skills practical. It was renovated into the present state as Computer Lab. and Library

The school runs nine subject, six core subject and the other three optional or electives. A pupil is required to pass six subjects (four cores and two optional) before s/he qualifies to Senior High School.

It has over the years produced some prominent and renowned politicians and personalities such as the then Members of Parliament Hon. Ishmael Ashitey and Hon. Abraham Aidoo of Tema East and West constituencies respectively including the immediate past Member of Parliament Hon. Evans Ashong Narh as well as the paramount chief (Nii Adjei Kraku II) of Tema Township and several others.

Pupils of all ages and backgrounds comprise a vibrant learning community and enjoy excellent educational opportunities on our campus. But as every human institution is not devoid of challenges so as Manhean TMA 1 JHS is no exception. The major challenge is lack of inadequate infrastructure and sport equipment as well as field for sporting activities. Although, pupils are highly interested in sports. This deprives the pupils’ basic fundamental right to play. The school also runs a shift system (morning and afternoon shift for fortnightly) due to lack of adequate infrastructures and concrete.

Namely Form One, Two and Three. Each form is made of four streams labeled F 1A to 1D, F2A to 2D and F3A to D.  On the average, each stream accommodates at least forty students.  Currently, the students’ population is about four hundred and seventy-nine with staff numerical strength of twenty one (headmaster inclusive) maximum
